Processing of imported and exported goods: The Department inspects examines all goods entering and leaving the country and assesses and collects all duties or tax that are liable to be paid. The Department also searches for and seizes restricted and prohibited goods (e.g. firearms or drugs).
Processing of Incoming and Outgoing Travellers: Officers of the Customs and Excise Department/ Integrated Border Security Unit speak to persons arriving on Montserrat by air or sea, and inspects any items they are bringing with them in order to assess and collect any duties that are liable to be paid. As part of the examination process, the Department also searches for and seizes restricted and prohibited goods (e.g. firearms or drugs).
